In a few short weeks, Easter will be here again, and it'll soon be time to start getting those eggs out of the refrigerator so the kids can gather around the kitchen table to color and decorate them. Even for those that don't celebrate the religious aspects of the holiday, Easter is usually still a fun time to get together, color eggs, and send the kids on an Easter egg hunt.
But what if you could really impress the kiddos this year by showing them how to make some seriously creative Easter egg art? Well, thanks to HouseholdHacker's video below, you can!
In the video, you'll see how to take your ordinary Easter egg-coloring to a whole new level with a design that's a variation on Chinese tea eggs. And the best part: It's super easy!
First, you just have to prepare your Easter egg dye just like you normally would. You can either use food coloring or the store-bought egg dye, but make sure you have some very strong colors for this one.
Then, just hard-boil your eggs like you normally would, but this time, grab the completed hard-boiled eggs and use the back of a metal spoon to actually crack the shell in multiple places. Don't remove the shells; just crack them.
Now place the eggs into the dyes and place the whole thing into the refrigerator. When a few hours have passed, carefully remove the eggs and start to peel off the shell. If you have trouble getting all the shell off, running the egg under a little cold water should help.
You'll see that, because of the cracks, the dye was able to not only color the shell, but it actually penetrated the egg white as well, creating a beautiful spiderweb pattern of color that will have the kids in awe.
What a cool idea! I'm definitely trying it this Easter season!
