To Darnell Barton, October 18 seemed like any other workday as a bus driver in Buffalo, New York. He had just picked up about 20 kids or so from a local high school when something caught his eye. A woman had climbed over the guardrail, now standing over the expressway, and looking like she was ready to jump.
Barton said judging by the amount of cars whizzing passed her and a handful of pedestrian walking by and giving her little attention, he wasn't sure if he was actually seeing what he thought he was. However, as he got closer, he knew this was not a joke and this woman was in deed contemplating ending her life. Barton immediately pulled his bus over and asked if the woman was OK. When she didn't answer, he jumped out of his bus, wrapped his arms around her, and asked her if she wanted to come over to his side of the railing.
She told him that she did and Barton, like a true hero, carried her over to safety and sat down and comforted her until authorities arrived. He did this all while a crowd of people sat on the bus and watched.
Barton was a true hero that day, he selflessly put his own life on hold to help someone who was in desperate need.
What a beautiful moment and it was all captured on a video system installed on the bus.
