Most of us are told that Christmas is more about giving than receiving from a very young age. However, that doesn't stop most children from being blinded by the presents under the tree.
Seven-year-old Reese Russell is different, though, and shows maturity well beyond her years. While most third-graders are making Christmas wish lists, Reese has dedicated herself to creating 100 personalized Christmas baskets for the homeless.
Reese's mission began after she witnessed a homeless man digging through the trash. She asked her parents what the man would be doing for Christmas, and when she learned that it was probably nothing, she decided to do something about it.
The seven-year-old told CTV News, "I felt really bad and I really wanted to help them." With the help of her mom, Nicole, Reese was able to make a video asking for donations and to set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money for her cause.
As you can see in the video, Reese has already put donation money to good use and collected a number of personal hygiene items that are ready to be placed into baskets for the needy.
Reese has also received recognition for her generosity from her representative in the House of Commons, who spoke on her behalf.
Both Reese and her mother are overwhelmed and grateful for the positive public response. The pair fully plan to spend Christmas day visiting shelters and handing out the baskets they have put together.
