Recently, two adorable baby skunks lost their mom.
She, unfortunately, met her demise after an encounter with a Mississippi family's dog. When the family discovered the lifeless skunk near their home, they checked the perimeter for her nest. After a brief investigation, they realized the skunk had actually been living underneath their home all along, with her two precious babies.
Determined to save these now orphaned skunks from neglect, these homeowners immediately rang Wild at Heart Rescue for help.
The pet rescue swiftly dispatched rescuers to the home. However, upon arrival, the rescuers realized the skunk nest was lodged too deep underneath the house for anyone to reach it via the home's exterior.
The home's owner immediately sprang into action. He grabbed a saw, and began carefully cutting up his own flooring, taking all necessary steps to save these cute, baby skunks.

Recently, homeowners in Mississippi discovered that their dog had, unbeknownst to them, killed a skunk that had been living in a nest underneath their house.
Upon further investigation, they realized that the skunk had been a mom, and her two daughter skunks were now trapped in her nest, all alone.
These homeowners, determined to save the mama skunk's babies from harm, immediately called Wild at Heart Rescue for help.
However, once rescuers arrived, they realized that the only way to save the skunks would be by ripping open the home's flooring.
These homeowners had zero qualms about ripping up their floorboards to rescue these precious souls.
As Wild at Heart Rescue wrote on its Facebook, "The sweet homeowners said to us, we will pull up any flooring we have to save those babies. And they certainly did!"
Once one of the homeowners, Seth, ripped open his floors, he caught a clear glimpse of the skunk nest underneath.
Seth reached in and grabbed both adorable skunks, now free from their floorboard entrapment.
Rescuers immediately shuttled these cute girls back to Wild at Heart Rescue, where their rehabilitation specialist, Adriane Rawls, helped them into their incubators.
These sister skunks have since been named Helen and Mary, and are faring quite nicely in their temporary rescue home.
These adorable little girls progressing quite nicely in their rehabilitation.
Just yesterday, Missy Dubuisson, founder and director of Wild at Heart Rescue told LittleThings, "The skunks opened their eyes."
