In the late 1980s, a Panamanian mom made the decision to move to the United States with her two young children as a result of political issues in the country.
It wasn’t easy. The trio went from living comfortably in their home country to living in poverty in Florida. Her children — ages 10 and 13 at the time — were too young to understand the sacrifice their mother made to give them a better living.
“As a child, I wasn’t happy with what my mom had done because we actually had to struggle. We lived in a very small trailer,” the son says in the clip below. “It was extremely uncomfortable; it wasn’t a safe neighborhood.”
Despite the hardships, this mom worked several jobs to ensure her children had a bright future. As she explains, “I came to this country for them.” It's an unbelievable sacrifice that many immigrant parents have been forced to make, including the mom who left her family in Honduras to come and work in America.
When her son got older, however, he realized exactly what his brave mother had done for him and his sister. That's why he decided to write her an emotional letter, which he reads to her in the powerful clip below.
