At the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, several artists gathered not just to see if they would take home one of the gilded trophies, but also to honor those icons that we've lost recently. Lady Gaga performed a weird and wonderfully beautiful tribute to David Bowie as only she can. Johnny Depp stood alongside Alice Cooper and Aerosmith's Joe Perry to memorialize the late metal rocker, Lemmy Kilmister.
Also taking to the stage for a heartwarming tribute were surviving members of the Eagles, joined also by their good friend Jackson Browne. Though the band definitely had its ups and downs over the years, egos and inner struggles causing strife between members, they recently reunited in good spirits as they prepared for a performance at the Kennedy Center Honors. Sadly, guitarist Glenn Frey's health suddenly went south and, despite surgical attempts, he tragically passed away.
Back in 1971, however, he met with Browne for the first time and the two collaborated on what would become a tune. Browne played his unfinished version of "Take It Easy" for Frey and asked his advice on how to finish it. When Frey responded with the iconic line, "It's a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowin' down to take a look at me," Browne was so impressed that he decided to give the whole song over to Frey and his budding band. It soon became the Eagles first of many hit songs.
"He finished it in spectacular fashion," Browne explains. "And, what's more, arranged it in a way that was far superior to what I had written."
