If you've ever had a car die, then you know how defeating that feeling it is. Chances are, you have somewhere to be. And who has the time or the money to deal with a dying car?
Of course, like most unpleasant experiences, it happens. Sometimes the only thing that can help in these stressful situations is the help of a stranger.
You can't count on this, but if you're lucky, someone with the same kind of selflessness as this woman —who gave a homeless woman chicken fingers and a much-needed hug at a fast food restaurant — will come along.
When Maria Arriaga, a mom from Albuquerque, had car trouble on the way home, even policemen wouldn't stop to help her.
Just when she thought she'd have to wait by herself to get help, a teen — whom she calls an "angel" in her post on Facebook's Love What Matters page — showed up to save the day.
Maria Arriaga was planning on making a quick stop at home before picking up her daughter from Atrisco Heritage Academy High School when her car stopped responding.
That's when she met another high school student, Joseph Tapia, who ended up saving her day.
Maria shares on Facebook's Love What matters page:
I was 10 minutes from getting home when my car died on me on Unser and Dennis Chavez. I senior from Atrisco was the only one that stopped and helped. Not even a cop stopped when they saw him push my car all by himself.
To top it off it was raining like crazy. He checked my car and told me, “Get in your car so you won’t get wet.” I told him someone was on their way to help me but that I was going to get in to call my daughter because she was about to get out of practice.
His response was, “Take my car and pick her up so she won’t get wet while waiting for you.” It started raining harder and I rolled my window down and told him, “Please go in your car or you can leave leave I will be okay.”
He said, “No, I will wait here outside and wait for someone to come, and I don’t want to leave you alone with your kids. Also, it’s just water.” He waited almost an hour with me. His name is Joseph Tapia.
GOD Bless this young man for helping when he didn’t have to, He was my angel today! Please share so all of Albuquerque knows we do have kind, helpful young men, and Angels! Joseph Tapia!!
It's incredible that Joseph offered to wait for that long, and even more so that it was in the rain.
However, this just goes to show that, despite all the negativity, there are still people doing the right thing.
Of course, Joseph gets extra points for being so young and giving us hope that chivalry is not quite dead.
