A Louisiana mom running for US Congress gave viewers an inside look into her life and the recent birth of her son. She is hoping to reach residents of the state through this intimate new campaign ad, in which she says she worries about worsening climate change, her local school system, and Louisiana's "severe" abortion laws.
Louisiana was one of more than a dozen states that banned abortion after the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Katie's ad shows her pregnant on her farm with her daughter and husband. She tells viewers about raising a young family on her farm, saying, "My husband and daughter help take care of the chickens."
Throughout the ad, we see touching moments between the family.
Katie then goes into detail about her experience being pregnant.
"We should be putting pregnant women at ease, not putting their lives at risk," Katie says in the video as she's being wheeled into a hospital and shown in labor in a hospital bed.
Katie revealed in the video that she doesn't have a background in politics. She told Today Parents that when Roe v. Wade was overturned, she was "terrified."
She had a high-risk pregnancy and did not know what would happen to her.
"My first reaction was, 'I want to move,'" she told the outlet.
"My second reaction was realizing (that) if we don't protect reproductive rights, eventually there will be nowhere to move."
This was the moment Katie says spurred her into action.
Katie Darling, 36, is running for Congress against Congressman Steve Scalise.
