Throughout time, there have been many strange phenomena that mankind has struggled to fully understand.
Whether it's seeing strange flashes thousands of feet up among the clouds, or discovering eerily intricate tunnels underground, most of the mysteries we've encountered have been brought about by the changes in nature.
But years ago, in Ottosdal, South Africa, miners uncovered something shocking that, to this day, remains a totally unexplained mystery: seemingly simple rocks, molded by erosion and time, that some argue defy all scientific explanation.
Everyone from researchers and scientists to naturalists have observed the unearthed artifacts, and many have concluded that they couldn't have possibly been produced naturally by the Earth. Some have even gone so far as to theorize that they had come from extraterrestrial sources…
Read on to learn more about these puzzling findings, which have stood the test of time and disbelief. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Years ago, miners in Ottosdal dug up something quite puzzling: metallic spheres, later dubbed Klerksdorp Spheres. These muddy brown stones were initially thought to have been manufactured by man — but some believe they might have been crafted by more extraterrestrial hands…
Each of these metallic spheres measures about the same — less than half an inch to about four inches across — and some of them even have parallel grooves etched around the middle.

They also all happen to be around three billion years old. Yes, that’s right. Three billion. But because the Earth’s surface was in its preliminary stages then, experts reason that it would have been impossible to produce these intricate objects.

These spheres have long challenged the historical and scientific order of evolution. How could such “advanced” objects, naturalists wondered, have come before civilized cultures? Could there have been early mysterious, ultra-intelligent beings that we aren’t aware of?

However, others argue that there is a more logical and all-natural explanation for these spheres. Some scientists believe they are concretions — or hard, aged matter that’s found in sedimentary rock. Formed billions of years ago, they are often spherical in shape.
Other very similar spheres have been around the world. The "Moqui Marbles," pictured above, were found in the Navajo Sandstone formation in Utah — and those below were discovered in New York’s Schoharie County.

Today, these spheres can be viewed in the Klerksdorp Museum, around 40 miles from where they were first excavated — and to this day, they still inspire wonder and curiosity in academic circles.

We might never know the true origin of these mysterious spheres, but it's certainly a fascinating discovery!
