Kylie Jenner has famously been plumping her lips for what seems like an eternity, but on Sunday, July 8, 2018, the reality star shared two new Instagram photos that feature a more natural-looking pout. When fans of the new mom noticed the smaller lips, many commented that she "looks like the old Kylie," to which Kylie responded, "I got rid of all my filler."
Kylie admitted to using filler to enhance her lips back in 2015, though it's suspected she'd been doing it for much longer. Before filler, Kylie would famously "overline" her lips. With her new natural pout, we wonder if Kylie will go back to expertly applied lip liner, after all — she can do her lip liner with her eyes closed.
Kylie showed off her more natural pout in a series of photos with her best friend Anastasia "Stassi" Karanikolaou. In the posts, Kylie pointed out that she and Stassi were celebrating eight years of friendship, but the fans only noticed her smaller lips.
Kylie admitted to plumping up her lips with filler in an episode of the family's reality show in 2015.
"I have temporary lip fillers, it's just an insecurity of mine, and it's what I wanted to do," Kylie revealed on the show.
Before Kylie's admission, many people blasted her about "lying" about her lips, though she was careful to point out that she never lied, she just omitted certain facts.
"I want to admit to the lips, but people are so quick to judge me on everything, so I might have tiptoed around the truth, but I didn't lie," Kylie continued in the same Keeping Up With the Kardashians episode.
However, in 2014, she responded to a fan on Twitter that she was insulted by rumors she had gotten plastic surgery. "These plastic surgery rumors hurt my feelings to be honest and are kinda insulting," she wrote in a now-deleted tweet.
It's unclear if she didn't have the filler in 2014, or if she doesn't consider lip injections to fall under the umbrella of "plastic surgery."
Despite her long-term choice to enhance her lips, Kylie dissuaded her fans from following in her footsteps.
"I'm not here to try & encourage people/young girls to look like me or to think this is the way they should look," she tweeted (via CNN).
Then in a 2017 episode of her reality show Life of Kylie, she elaborated on why she decided to get lip injections.
"I was 15 and I was insecure about my lips. I have really small lips. And it was like one of my first kisses and a guy was like, ‘I didn’t think you would be a good kisser because you have such small lips.’ But I took that really hard,” she revealed in the episode.
"Just when a guy you like says that, I don’t know, it just really affected me," Kylie elaborated. "I just didn’t feel desirable or pretty. I really wanted bigger lips. I would overline my lips with lip liner just to create the illusion of bigger lips. And then finally I was like this lip liner isn’t doing it. [I] ended up getting my lips done,” she added.
It's true that Kylie used to overline her lips. The above photo from her Instagram in 2014 shows Kylie prefiller with the simple lip-liner technique.
Here she is in a 2014 British Vogue shoot with significantly smaller lips. This is likely before the injections and before she discovered her patented overlining technique.
For comparison, this is Kylie's bare face in a June 2018 video for Vogue. She demonstrated her entire makeup routine for the publication, which gave fans a rare glimpse at her pouty lips without her signature lip kit.
We're curious how Kylie's natural lips will appear in upcoming advertisements for her cosmetics brand. Her entire brand is based on her enhanced mouth.
Maybe motherhood has changed Kylie's mind about filler. She recently revealed in a vlog Q&A that her daughter has naturally full lips.
"She has the most perfect lips in the entire world,” Kylie explained. “She didn’t get those from me; I think her dad has those."
It seems as if Kylie is cooling off on body modifications in general. In May 2018, she revealed in an interview with Evening Standard that while she's cool with plastic surgery, she doesn't want it for herself at the moment.
"I feel like if it makes you feel better, and if that’s what you want to do, I’m not against it,” she told the publication. “Right now I probably wouldn’t do anything, actually.”
We think Kylie looks great with her new au naturel lips. Whatever makes you happy!
