The internet has its issues. It’s a place that can often gather the worst of humanity. There are the trolls, the creeps, and criminals, the bearers of bad news, and the people who are just downright annoying. But every once in a while, we’re reminded of the unique type of community it’s fostered among people who would likely never meet one another in real life.
These communities can help mothers feel less alone, help angsty teenagers socialize, help activists mobilize, and in the case of one wife, they helped catch her husband having an affair with another woman.

Everything in the woman’s house was turning green.
The confused wife presented Reddit with a conundrum. She shared that everything in her house was turning green. “At first it was just my cat, and then it became my bedsheets, my feet (which then stained my shoes and socks), my couch, my phone charger, and now my wall,” she wrote.
She had no idea where the pigment was coming from and was desperate to discover if anyone had ideas about what it could be and how to get rid of it. She guessed laundry detergent or mold, but it was neither.

In the comments section, people offered their own guesses. People told her to check the metal under her bed and other furniture. She did. No luck. Another person wondered why only one of the original poster’s cats turned green and not both of them.
Eventually, someone commented that, giving the OP the clue she needed.
“Or possibly just buy some new jeans from Old Navy??” the Redditor wrote. “Lol they stain everything.” The OP responded, “hahah me and my husband are not jean-wearers.”
That’s when another user had an idea. “Imagine this is how you discover he’s having an affair with some Old Navy wearing woman from turning the cat green!” they commented.
There was a shocking update.
The idea seemed outlandish, but the OP couldn’t shake it. She checked her husband’s bank statements for any purchases from Old Navy. Eventually, she provided an update on Reddit.
“Although the commenter did not know me or my husband, coincidentally, i’ve already had suspicions on a possible affair from the multiple last minute overtime shifts and just overall changes in behavior,” she wrote.
She also shared that her husband had an affair in the past, so she’s always been a bit wary. She admitted that she spiraled. “… and then i admit i did the bad thing and looked thru my husbands phone and there it was. some sexy instagram DMs from a woman who wears jeans (cannot confirm if they’re old navy).” Yikes.
The woman is handling all of this very well.
OP said that she and her cat have spent the last week at her parents’ house. The person who suggested it might have been jeans said they were “screaming” as they read this update.
“I’m sorry you found out like this OP,” the person offered in consolation. ”But glad the truth came out.”
Thankfully, OP had a good attitude about it. “I wish i could’ve seen your face when you read this update,” she wrote. “truly. But anyway, thanks for commenting it even tho it was a joke no hard feelings at all!”
She doesn’t believe she fully checked back in after the first affair.
When another Reddit user asked OP if she was OK, considering this development, she said that weirdly, she is OK. “I don’t think i was ever really fully emotionally checked back in since the last time so i think this time hurt a bit less. sorry i couldn’t figure out the source of the green! but my cat is definitely a lot whiter now that we’ve spent time at my parents haha,” she wrote.
