9 Of Frank Sinatra’s Secret And Not-So-Secret Love Affairs

Frank Sinatra is known for many things, as he is one of the most important and iconic pop musicians in history.

With a career spanning 60 years, including collaborations with talents such as Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, and Duke Ellington, his legacy is incredible.

There’s a Frank Sinatra song out there for everyone, and I can’t imagine leaving a Yankees game to anything but “New York, New York.”

Iconic hits like “My Way” and “You Make Me Feel So Young” are hard not to sing along to, as The Voice is a powerful force.

But what many people don't know about Sinatra is that he had quite the turbulent personal life. He drank and smoked, and was a workaholic, insistent upon sleeping only four hours every night. He also was quite the ladies’ man.  Who wouldn’t fall for his charming smile and smooth voice?

Perhaps his troubled personal life full of highs and lows was the perfect match for a musician. These muses must have been a major source of inspiration.

Here are 9 secret (and not-so-secret) love affairs The Voice had over the years!

This was the first known affair Sinatra had that started to push Nancy, his first wife, over the edge. It lasted a few years — a few years too many — and long after Frank and Nancy initially moved to Hollywood.

2. Lana Turner

Sinatra was blown away by her performance in The Postman Always Rings Twice, and got her number shortly after seeing the film. Two weeks after their affair started, Sinatra had asked Nancy for a divorce.

3. Ava Gardner

Sinatra started seeing Gardner as his marriage to Nancy was falling apart after they moved to Hollywood. Sinatra and Gardner did marry in 1951, and even though they divorced in 1957, Sinatra always had Ava on his mind.

4. Judy Garland

After his marriage with Gardner ended, Sinatra was involved with Garland. They remained good friends until her death in 1969.

5. Lauren Bacall

Her husband, Humphrey Bogart, was very jealous of Sinatra. Bacall and Sinatra had an affair, which became public after Bogart died of cancer.

6. Marilyn Monroe

Sinatra wanted to marry Monroe, if only to save her from the public. Upon her death, Joe DiMaggio forbid his, along with the rest of the Rat Pack’s, entrance to her funeral.

7. Mia Farrow

The two married when Sinatra was 50 and she was 21. They were only together for two years, and Sinatra served Farrow the divorce papers on set in front of the cast and crew of Rosemary's Baby. Farrow claims the two “never actually split” and there is major speculation as to whether Ronan Farrow is Sinatra’s.

8. Juliet Prowse

Sinatra was in Can-Can with Prowse, and proposed marriage to her (which she turned down.) He said she was the sexiest dancer he ever saw.

9. Angie Dickinson

Sinatra and Dickinson co-starred in Ocean's 11 as cinematic husband and wife, but he became interested in her off-screen as soon as he found out she was attached (of course.)
