Lucille Ball remains one of the world's most talented comedic performers, especially when it comes to physical comedy. She spent her early days in Hollywood getting thrown around for bit parts in movies where she played cave girls and cowgirls alike. Nothing was too daunting for the former tomboy to tackle! And, of course, Ball brought those talents right along with her when she and husband Desi Arnaz starred in their own TV series.
From 1951—1957, she and Arnaz entertained audiences every week on I Love Lucy, playing the Ricardos with both warmth and hilarity. Following the hit series' finale, they kept the roles going by producing special episodes for The Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour over the next few years. Their neighbors and best friends, Fred and Ethel Mertz played by William Frawley and Vivian Vance, stayed by the crazy couple's side while they made their way out of the big city to raise Little Ricky in the more homespun environment of Connecticut.
In this episode, however, the Ricardos and Mertzes fly all the way out to Alaska to inspect some land the boys purchased. Exhausted from their travels, the gang can't wait to tuck in for a good night's sleep. There's just one problem: the remote hotel has only one room available, forcing the couples to split a bed, a hammock, and an Army cot between them.
Lucy decides to take the hammock and, as you can imagine, the tricky apparatus makes things hilariously difficult for her.
