When little Amelie Clarke opens up her flowery, pink lunch box at school, like most kids she can typically find a balanced meal made by her mother, Julie. However, there is one thing that Julie gets in her lunch box that a lot of kids don't: a handmade note from her mom. It may not seem like a big deal, but knowing what we know about some of the conditions kids live in, it is a big deal.
We've seen children put into foster care due to their abusive and neglectful parents. We've seen foster children mistreated by their new parents. While every child deserves the love of a parental figure, we know that there are millions of children out there wondering if their parents love them. Amelie will never have to wonder. Each day, she opens up her lunch box and in it is a hand-drawn motivational note from her mom. Julie knows the importance of this, her mom was too busy juggling the practicalities of life to be sentimental.
“My mom had four kids; three boys and then me,” Julie said. “She was busy probably just trying to keep the kids off the furniture.”
Most of the notes are motivating, inspirational, and encouraging to let Amelia know she can do whatever she sets her mind to. After Julie began sharing them on Instagram, they quickly attracted hundreds of admirers. Sometimes saying that you care is just as important as showing it.
