Can You Make This Magical Color-Changing Cake At Home?

When it's sitting still, this may look like a totally ordinary cake to you. But when it starts to spin around, or if you happen to walk around it, you may notice something bizarre is starting to happen at different angles. Baker Ayarel debunks the myth of the color-changing cake. When it first went viral, people were so enthralled by its amazing effect, they believed it was fake. As it turns out, the technique is totally real. In fact, Ayarel learned to do it when she first began training in 2002, long before the strange cake became popular.

Ayarel shows us how to make the stunning optical illusion. She uses nothing but a sheet cake and a decorating airbrush. While the cool effect can be achieved with any two colors, Ayarel recommends using complementary colors for a nice contrast.

In the video, she simply combs the top of the sheet cake to create the swirl pattern. Then she sprays each quadrant of the cake a different color. When she spins it on the turntable, it looks as though each color is changing into the next. It is totally trippy and is sure to stun anyone at your dinner party.
