This holiday season, we've seen many admirable shopping mall Santas not just play the part of Saint Nick, but actually show the same compassion we know he would — if he were real, of course!
But just because Santa isn't real doesn't mean that what he inspires isn't: just check out this shopping mall Santa, who used sign language to communicate with a little girl who was hearing-impaired. And before him, this Saint Nick comforted a boy with autism by laying down on the floor with him to make him feel less shy.
So when one mall Santa was faced with the difficulty of comforting a sick child, he couldn't pass on the opportunity to offer some holiday healing.
5-year-old Maddie was diagnosed with brain cancer at 4 months old. She underwent treatments and surgery for a year before going into remission, but the cancer came back 9 months later.
Little Maddie has been battling the disease ever since, and her mother, Tracy, doesn't take a day with her daughter for granted. She took Maddie to see Santa, whom the little girl loves.
When this mall Santa heard her story, he showed compassion for 5-year-old. He took her hand, and put a small bell in it, saying that every time she rings the bell, Santa, Mrs. Claus, and all the elves will pray for her recovery. He added that he knew that she would beat cancer.
It's truly amazing how much just a few words can do!
