Greg Barrett attended a school board meeting of the Katy Independent School District in Texas. The meeting, which took place on a Monday night, was going just as planned — until Greg walked up to the podium to tell a very interesting and painstaking story.
It's no secret that bullying has become a widespread epidemic, and that's exactly what Greg wanted to discuss. He also had firsthand experience. He told the Board that he was the victim of bullying as a junior in high school. “I started out and I had teachers that bullied me, I had kids that bullied me, even the coaches," he said at the mic. "I had nobody to turn to."
On one occasion, one particularly cruel childhood bully shoved his head in a urinal. While he lay in the fetal position on the bathroom floor, other students attacked and kicked him.
While facing the administrators, Greg said the bullying was so bad and so relentless that he even considered suicide. He found his father's gun and stuck it in his mouth, but didn't pull the trigger. "At this point, I had nobody," he bravely recounted.
But then came the shocking twist. The bully who treated him so heinously 35 years ago? Not only was he in attendance at that very same board meeting, but he was the school district's current superintendent.
