A former Missouri teacher was facing charges for an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student. Now that student is her husband.
Baylee Turner was 23 years old when she was teaching English at Sarcoxie High School in 2019. It was in the midst of that school year that Turner was investigated for having sexual contact with a student. She admitted to having sex with the student at her residence during the week of January 14 to 21, 2019. Arrest documents didn't detail the student's age or gender.
“In an emergency school board meeting on Monday, they accepted the resignation of Turner and the school has asked the state to revoke her teaching license,” Sarcoxie School District Superintendent Kevin Goddard said at the time.
It was later revealed that the student was a 17-year-old male, who is now 19 or 20 years old. This student and Turner are now husband and wife, forcing prosecutors to drop the charges against Turner.
Prosecutors explain that Turner would be difficult to bring to justice without the testimony of her alleged victim, who is now protected from testifying against her by spousal privilege. It's unclear when they were married and if it was for this purpose.
