There isn’t much a mother’s love can’t do, and one little girl in Thailand can thank hers for saving her life. On August 9, 2025, local media outlet Bangkok Post stated that first responders were frantically trying to free a 1-year-old girl after an overturned vehicle plummeted nearly 50 feet into a ravine in the Chiang Mai Province.
Authorities found the vehicle had landed upside down, and a rock struck the roof of the car directly on impact. They soon discovered that two of the passengers had been flung from the car. The mother was found dead at the scene while the father was conscious and able to speak and told authorities that his daughter was still trapped inside.

According to People, the Associated Press obtained video that showed the rescue was a complicated one as rescuers had to work in darkness and around a stream that ran below the truck. Once they got to the girl, authorities noted that she was wrapped in a blanket and surrounded by pillows, which her mother had arranged to protect her.
Responders noted that the pillows and blankets worked as makeshift airbags and helped to cushion the child after the fall. She was taken to Wiang Pa Pao Hospital to be examined further, but there are no updates thus far on whether the young girl received any injuries. Her father and deceased mother were taken to Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital.
“This sight deeply moved the rescue team, who were touched by the mother’s final act of love to shield her child from harm,” AP reported, per People.
The Post noted that police believe they lost control because of the steep downhill curve, but a detailed investigation is in progress to help figure out the exact cause of the crash.
