Mom Shares Heartbreaking Last Words She Said To Son Before He Was Found Dead In A Pool The Next Day

We never really know when the last time it is we will see someone. We always assume the best, and try to prepare for the worst, but nothing on earth could prepare a mother for the loss of her child.

Christina Dunn certainly wasn’t prepared to get the news that her 20-year-old boy Tayshaun Todd had died while at a party in his hometown of Las Vegas. His body was found in the pool. Authorities have not released the details on his death, but People reports they classified his death as a drowning.

Dunn was surprised when her son told her where he was going. “I’m like, ‘A party? Boy, why do you want to go to a party for?'” Dunn told People. “Even though he’s 20, he’s still a kid to me. So really, my last words to him were, ‘Boy, you need to be careful.'”

Those ended up being her last words to him ever. Sadly he didn’t heed his mother’s warning.

Evidently the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was notified about a large party at a residence around 8:30 p.m. on June 17, 2025, and shut it down. Todd’s friend alerted Dunn that he was missing, so Dunn immediately headed over to the home where the party had been. At around 11:30 p.m., when she arrived, the person who owned the home reassured her that everyone had left. Dunn said she had to beg police to come, which they did around 1 a.m. Dunn said the police searched “about 5 minutes.” After that, the police left.

After going back and forth with authorities, being directed to missing persons, and basically being told there was nothing they could do, Dunn returned to the area the next day to ask neighbors about her son. It was then she saw the police tape.

A person in the home called 911 after finding Todd’s body in the pool on June 18 at around 12:30 p.m.

“He really wasn’t even a partier,” Dunn said. “This was only his second party ever in life. That’s why everybody is just so shaken up because that’s not even him.”

Dunn was studying business management at the College of Southern Nevada. “He had just gotten a job offer at his old high school, a teacher’s assistant position,” his mom said. “He was supposed to start on August 1.”

The mom told the outlet she is furious over how police handled the situation.

“When I called the police to get there to try to get help, they blew me off,” she says. “If y’all had searched, you would’ve found him. He could have been back there trying to get out. He could have been slightly unconscious. He could have been alive. How do we know he wasn’t deceased? You didn’t check. And if you would’ve got here, you could have got him out and got him to the hospital.”

The toxicology report has not come back from the coroner’s office and Dunn claims no one has contacted her since.

“Everybody’s like, ‘What are the detectives saying?’ I don’t know. They haven’t called to offer no sympathy, empathy, condolences. They haven’t told me anything,” she said. “I have filed a formal complaint with them because I do want everything investigated.”

The LVMPD has not responded to People’s request for comment.
