Mom Texts Dead Trooper Son To Cope With Her Grief And Receives Unexpected Message Back

In May 2015, Taylor Thyfault passed away at the age of 21. The young trooper and Army veteran was completing his training with the Colorado State Patrol when he was struck and killed by a suspect involved in a high-speed chase.

Taylor's devastated mother, Carole Adler, suddenly found herself mourning the loss of her beloved son. The pair was extremely close and stayed in constant contact. They rarely went a day without texting one another and keeping each other updated on their lives. ‘Every day, it hits me like a ton of bricks, when I can’t text him,’ she told KUSA. "Everything that happened in his life was in my life.’

The sense of emptiness in the wake of Taylor's death seemed too difficult for the mother to bear. Sometimes Carole would send text messages to Taylor's phone. She knew she wouldn't receive a message back, and she never did — but for some reason the simple gesture would bring her a sense of comfort in her moments of pain.

One day, Carole felt another strong urge to send a message to Taylor's phone. She wanted to tell him how much she loved and missed him.

You can imagine Carole's shock when she heard the sound of an incoming text… from Taylor's phone number.
