TV talent competitions have produced countless memorable moments.
Just take a look at Sadu Vidoo, who claims to be a living doll. When she stepped on stage in a frilly pink dress, the judges were immediately skeptical — but the power of her voice quickly changed their perceptions of her.
Then there's 17-year-old Samantha Lavery, who stepped up for her big moment wearing a full face of makeup, only to be told by Simon to take all of it off. Though plenty of people would have been thrown off by the order, she not only handled it like a pro, but was also able to reveal her true self on that stage.
Monica Michael is another young performer who left it all out there.
The 25-year-old singer stood in front of two female judges on the Judges' Houses episode of X Factor 2015 before breaking out into a powerful song.
"He had the darkest brown eyes that sparkled at night, that shone from his soul within," she sings, and emotion builds in her voice as she continues to sing about the unnamed man.
"Is it too much to ask what that song is about," the judges ask at the end.
That's when Monica reveals the heartbreaking inspiration behind the original song: she wrote it for her little brother, who drowned the previous year. In a beautiful show of empathy, the two judges then rush up to hug her.
