When it comes to home design, anything is possible when you have a large imagination, and this couple proves that in spades.
Gonzalo Duran and Cheri Pan bought their house in 1994 in order to build a huge art studio. But they didn’t just build an art studio, they transformed a seemingly run-down place into a beautiful home.
Their house is located in Venice, CA, and when they first bought it, it was fairly hopeless. Their ideas stemmed from fiddling around with decorating their newly bought house. They realized that breaking tiles actually looked better to them than keeping them whole.
First experimenting on the bathroom, they quickly became so fascinated by the medium that they’ve spent the last 21 years covering almost every square inch of their house with tens of thousands of colorful clay tiles.
Their home is covered inside and out in mosaic tiles, and it’s become quite the tourist attraction because of it.
Cheri contributes making the clay tiles, using cookie cutters to make fun shapes, while Gonzalo is quite the builder. From the beds, to the tables in the house, to fascinating pieces using kitchen utensils and mugs, he uses all the tools he can find to conjure up whatever the couple wants.
I think their passion for creating is truly visible within their living, breathing piece of art. Their house is a testament to their love for art and their love for each other.

A couple bought this run-down house in Venice, knowing that it needed a lot of repairs and decorations to make it livable. However, being that this couple are both artists, the fate of this house would change almost instantly.

Combining forces, this artist couple succeeded in making one of the most beautifully decorative tourist attractions in the U.S. With Cheri Pan making the colorful clay tiles and Gonzalo Duran building everything from the beds to the tables, they teamed up to make their mosaic dream home a reality.

Cheri wanted the porch to be a place where children could create different worlds and let their imaginations run wild. From the whimsical structures, to the way sunlight beautifully reflects off of the many different mosaic shaped tiles, I'm sure Cheri's vision is definitely possible.

With over tens of thousands of shards of colorful clay tiles, this house is sure to wow you upon visiting. It also makes for a nice backdrop to any photographs due to the magnificent pops of color.

Not only is the outside covered in colorful mosaic tiles, but so is the inside. The bright-colored walls accompanies the detailed walls beautifully. I'm not sure how anyone could get bored living in this house.

Cheri had wanted a Mexican kitchen, so Gonzalo contributed in making surfaces with rounded edges and few 3D pieces as well. The kitchen's busy, yet whimsical, design has a cartoon flair to it that I'm sure makes any wide-eyed child awestruck.
