When 8-year-old Myles Eckert found $20 in the parking lot of an Ohio Cracker Barrel, he decided to use the cash for a brand new video game. But that quickly changed the second Myles noticed a man in uniform walk through the doors of the restaurant, holding a baby.
Air Force Lt. Col. Frank Dailey instantly reminded Myles of his own father. Army Sgt. Andy Eckert was killed in Iraq when Myles was just a newborn.
Myles wrapped that $20 bill in a yellow piece of paper. He scribbled the following note for the soldier to see:
Dear Soldier — my dad was a soldier. He’s in heaven now. I found this 20 dollars in the parking lot when we got here. We like to pay it forward in my family. It’s your lucky day. Thank you for your service. Myles Eckert, a gold star kid.
Later that day, Myles told his mom Tiphany he wanted to visit his dad's grave site, just like they usually did together. Only on this particular day, Myles said he wanted to be by himself at the cemetery. Tiphany was perplexed, but the pair headed off to the Whitehouse Cemetery in Whitehouse, Ohio. While giving Myles the space he wanted, Tiphany captured the tear-jerking sight of her son hugging his dad's gravestone as tight as possible, as if he wanted his dad to know he would continue his good deeds in his honor.
