For as long as he could remember, Steffon Josey-Davis has always wanted to be a police officer.
His dream, after years and years of planning, preparation, and training was utterly destroyed simply because of a momentary slip-up that never could have hurt anyone to begin with. Simply by legally owning a handgun and because he told the truth, he ended up getting himself a felony and his life was ruined in an instant.
It all started when the NJ resident was sitting in his garage working on his car. His 6-year-old sister suddenly burst into the room, and because he wanted to ensure her safety he placed his legally purchased handgun into his glove compartment instead of in its case in the car's trunk.
He later on left with his fiance, the gun still in the glove compartment. When a routine police stop pulled him over, Josey-Davis suddenly realized that his gun was out in the open and instantly informed the police officer. Everything seemed normal, but the gun was confiscated and Josey-Davis was free to go.
When Josey-Davis went to the police station to pick up his handgun, he was informed of his felony, put into handcuffs, and his dreams were crushed in a moment. Now, admittedly, he did make a mistake in the eyes of NJ's strict gun laws, but for this obviously good citizen to forever have a felony attached to his name is questionable.
With the help of the NRA, he has done his best to get governor Chris Christie to give him the official pardon he deserves. Police forces from all around the country are offering him a position simply due to his stand-up nature and calm demeanor.
He was told to approach the NAACP, but they weren't interested in helping out someone who wants to be a cop. According to Josey-Davis, they're only interested in fueling the flames of anti-police sentiment around our country.
