The ‘Giggling Granny’ Nannie Doss Killed 4 Of Her 5 Husbands And Possibly Others

Nannie Doss might not be a familiar name these days, but in the early 1900s she was notorious. Born in Alabama in 1905, Doss was raised by an abusive father and took the first chance she could to get out of her home. She married her first husband Charley Braggs when she was 16, and the two had four children together.

The marriage wasn't a happy one, and two of their daughters died from suspected food poisoning. Doss' husband left the home with their oldest daughter, returning a year later and asking for a divorce.

But no matter; Doss met and married Robert Harrelson a year later.

Her oldest daughter had two children during this time, and Doss killed the youngest when he was only an infant by poking his head with a hatpin. She was soon separated from her second husband, whom she eventually killed with rat poison after he raped her.

She went on to marry Arlie Lanning, who died of heart failure (and the pair's house burned down following his death), and Richard Morton, who died after Doss found out he was cheating.
