A new species of frog was discovered in Costa Rica and many can’t help but notice it’s uncanny resemblance to a very famous character: Kermit the Frog. Aside from the similar skin color, this real-life amphibian has bulging white eyes that are almost identical to that of the beloved Muppet.
There are many surprising animals found all around the world, including ones that are overwhelmingly large. One snorkeling trip might also bring you face-to-face with some very unusual underwater creatures. But there’s something that is even more incredible about this newly found amphibian.
The frog, named Hyalinobatrachium dianae, has one unique characteristic that most other species do not: translucent skin. Just wait till you can see its stomach at the :12 mark. I couldn't believe my eyes!
According to the Discovery Channel, this is the “first new species of glass frog to be discovered in Costa Rica in over 40 years.” And, understandably, it's a discovery that wildlife researchers are very excited about.
“These glass frogs are a very small, delicate species, so finding them is a good indicator of the general health of the ecosystem — a sign there isn’t much contamination,” says Brian Kubicki, who first found the frog.
