New York Man ‘Done’ Dealing With Thieves Leaves Fake Packages At Door To Catch Them

A New York man was tired of people stealing packages from him and his neighbors, so he decided to do something about it. Because he was so "done" with the thieves, he used fake packages to try to catch people in the act. Once he finally caught someone stealing one of the fake packages, he shared the footage on TikTok, writing, "Finally got a thief with decoy boxes."

Carlos, 35, said porch pirates had stolen packages from his porch on multiple occasions. Some of the packages that the thieves stole contained pretty pricey items like a $1,500 jacket that his wife ordered and a pair of Air Jordans.

Carlos is a plumber and a sneaker collector who lives in Queens, reports the New York Post. He told the outlet that he saw someone steal his $250 Air Jordan sneakers from his porch via his doorbell camera, shortly after the package was delivered. He was working at the time and couldn't stop the thief from driving off with the sneakers.

That incident was one of many, but it was the final straw for Carlos, and he came up with a way to catch some of the thieves stealing from him and his neighbors.

He decided to put a decoy package out on his porch. The package didn't contain sneakers or any other expensive items. Instead, he put dog feces and old french fries inside, reports ABC7.

To make sure his plan was effective, he also put a delivery label on the package.

Sure enough, someone tried to take the package, though they never saw what was actually inside of it.

Thanks to his security camera, Carlos caught the thief in the act, so he rushed outside. “I was like, ‘This is crazy, I gotta do something about it’ so I grabbed a baseball bat," Carlos told the New York Post.

Carlos told ABC7 that when he caught the thief, he wasn't really thinking; he was just angry. “I was like, ‘You’re on my property now’ and he was like, ‘Don’t hit me, please don’t hit me,’” Carlos said.

Carlos didn't hurt the man, and the man was not armed, according to ABC7. No one was injured, and Carlos said, he "just held him down until the cops came.”

The suspected thief was arrested for petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal trespass charges, according to the New York Post.
