There is new information in the case of Orsolya Gaal, the 51-year-old New York mother whose body was found stuffed in a duffel bag on Saturday. Authorities say that mom of two was stabbed over 50 times. They now believe it was done by someone she knew.
A "person of interest" has already been identified in the case, authorities say. As of Tuesday morning, that individual had not been arrested. Sources say police are still searching for the individual they believe killed Gaal.
That person reportedly used her phone to send her husband grim messages, writing, "your whole family is next," and, "Your wife sent me to jail some years ago. I'm back."
The NY mom was killed by both stabbing and blunt force injuries to the head, authorities say. To make the murder even more gruesome, her body was discovered in a blood-soaked duffel bag on Saturday morning. A man walking his dogs made the horrific discovery.
A person of interest was identified by surveillance footage. In it, the suspected killer can be seen wheeling the duffel bag away from Gaal's Forest Hills home. It was found hours later. Gaal was pronounced dead at the scene.
The duffel bag was found only about nine blocks from the woman's home. There was a trail of blood leading the way.
Because there were no signs of forced entry, authorities believe that the suspect was someone Gaal knew and willingly allowed into her home. But it seemed clear that a struggle ensued, and that the mom tried to fight back. Sources told People there were defensive wounds on Gaal's hands.
Gaal lived in the home with her husband and two teenage sons. While her husband and oldest child were out of town, her youngest was believed to be in the home at the time of the murder.
The mom reportedly saw a show at Lincoln Center in Manhattan on Friday night. Detectives say she was seen at a bar in Queens later in the evening.
