When a terrorist murdered nine innocent people in a South Carolina church last Wednesday, his initial plan was to begin a new "race war" unlike anything the United States has ever seen; he failed.
As the argument of race and racism continues to heat up all across our great nation, people from all over were struggling to come to terms with what happened. How could it be possible, that in 2015, such blind racist hate could still be so powerful? Luckily, our president Obama, "The Great Equalizer," chose a stunning moment to glue all our hearts together as we all gazed into the great abyss.
In a truly historical moment that will echo throughout the ages, Barack Obama led the eulogy for one of the victims of the horrible event, the reverend Clementa Pickney. In a recent video released by the White House, Obama leads the mourning crowd in a stirring rendition of the beautiful song, "Amazing Grace."
Finishing his song with the heartfelt words, “May God continue to shed His grace on the United States of America," Obama showed his true spirit and hopefulness in this dark moment of our nation's history. While hate continues to exist, it is only through love that we will manage to win. And with Obama leading us into a moment like this, and with a little help from God, one day those lyrics will make a bit more sense.
"…was blind but now I see," read the lyrics of the beloved song. One day, one day soon. May the victims, their family, America, and the whole world find that grace too. Until that beautiful day when we're all truly united as brothers and sisters.
