Mom’s Heart Drops When She Sees Police Lights. Next Day, Cop Shows Up Holding Two Car Seat Boxes

As the blue and red lights flashed blindingly through the back window of her car, Alexis Jones knew she was in trouble.

Jones was driving to her home in Arlington, VA, with her two children, a 3-year-old daughter and 9-month-old son, on Thanksgiving evening when a cop pulled her over.

She already had several unpaid tickets, but it was her children's car seats that weighed heavy on her mind. Both seats were in pretty bad condition, leaving the kids in a dangerously unsecured position.

"I was already nervous about the kids being unstrapped because Amia… comes out of her car seat, and [the boy] was too big for his,” the mom said. She had been holding off until Black Friday so she would be able to afford to replace the children's car seats.

Police officer Brandon Gilbert made his way over to her car, but instead of pulling out his pad to write her a ticket, he pulled out the car seat.

"I thought about taking enforcement action,” Gilbert confessed, emotion filling his voice. “But then I thought, 'That's not gonna help her.'”

He did his best to help install the car seat properly before letting Jones go. But that wasn't the last time the mom would hear from him.

As he told his wife about that evening's experience, Gilbert realized he had to do something. So the fellow parent decided to go above and beyond the call of duty. Using his own money, he bought two car seats and showed up at her door.

"They came over with two big boxes of car seats and stuffed animals,” Jones said, beaming. “And I was just in total shock. It was just amazing, actually."

Though Gilbert views the deed as just another part of his job, Jones considers him an angel for his demonstration of compassion and kindness.
