An Oklahoma mom of two who was doing a friend a favor is dead in an inexplicable attack.

Rebecca McCurdy was mauled by the pit bulls she was dog-sitting for her friend. The discovery was made after a welfare check was called in. Police found Rebecca's body in the garage of the home. She was 28 years old.

The loss has devastated Rebecca's family and loved ones, who are shocked this could have happened. On June 24, 2021, her family said goodbye as they struggled to move forward from this tragic event.

Rebecca McCurdy was housesitting and pet-sitting for a friend when a terrible accident cost her her life. Rebecca was mauled by one or more of the several pit bulls owned by the homeowner. The 28-year-old was watching over things for the homeowner.

"The homeowner claimed he raised pit bull dogs for hobby/sale," the Osage County Sheriff's Office told Pawhuska Journal-Capital.

"There were several pit bull dogs caged in the garage. One of the dog cages was toppled over and there were many signs of a dog attack visible."

Police arrived at the home after a welfare check was called in. When they responded to the scene, they discovered Rebecca's body in the home's garage, where several dogs were caged.

Rebecca is being remembered for her involvement in her neighborhood and her dedication to her family.

"In 2021, Brandon’s lineman job relocated the family to Stillwater where Rebecca resumed her stay-at-home mom duties coupled with fulltime teacher duties where both children continued to excel and grow," her obituary reads.

"She took the neighborhood mom role very seriously by always keeping snacks on hand and making sure there were activities for the kids to enjoy in a fun environment. She was also a very experienced cook; she did not shy away from the butter and everything she whipped up was amazing."

"Rebecca always had a smile on her face and brought joy and laughter to those around her," it continued.

"You never knew if she was going to be sweet and bring home baked goods or if she was going to be mischievous and remove all the batteries from your remotes. She kept everyone on their toes in the best possible way. The void she is leaving behind is vast and wide and our lives will be forever changed without her with us."

A GoFundMe page was started to help husband Brandon McCurdy and their two children, Brandon and Reagan, as they move forward. It raised more than the $10,000 goal as people remembered Rebecca's radiance and pitched in to help.

Rebecca's loved ones celebrated her life on June 24, 2021 in a service that was livestreamed. Any dogs that authorities suspected of the attack were removed from the home.
