Many people claim that they would do anything for their family, including lay down their lives to save another. But how many people actually find the chance or opportunity to do so?
Of course, no one would wish for anyone in their family to sacrifice themselves. But if this does happen, the deceased is remembered as a hero.
That is the case of 18-year-old Austin Welch, who drowned while he and his family went fishing in a river close to their home.
He didn't hesitate to jump into the Peace River in Bartow, FL, when his younger sister Crystal lost her footing and fell in the water.
The strong current was quickly carrying her away, but he managed to get her onto the river bank before it swept him away.
The teen's mom, Barbie Welch, and stepfather, Curtis Droz, are in grief. They always knew that the teen wanted to be in the news, one day, for doing something extraordinary and meaningful. They never imagined it would be for this.
But in their despair, they are remembering his full life and vibrant personality. They are sharing his story, and how his final selfless and heroic act saved not just any life, but the life of a loved one.
Please SHARE to honor this young man's sacrifice, and to express your condolences for his family.
