Every town has that one special spot that all of the locals take pride in sharing with tourists. Whether it's the World's Largest Ball of Yarn, or a natural wonder like the own shown below, it becomes part of every resident.
Unfortunately for the citizens near Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area in northwest Oregon, one of their most beloved natural structures, an 18 million-year-old rock formation known as "duckbill" for its distinct look, was thoughtlessly destroyed by vandals.
David Kalas and his buddy were out in sand testing out a new drone, but instead of capturing their goofy selfies, he captured the culprits with their hands still dirty. You can actually hear them cheering once it's crumbled, saying, "Got him!"
Along with the undeniable footage, Kalas also confronted the group and asked why they would do something so disrespectful. They explained their feeble reason for the cruel act: one of their friends had broken their leg while jumping off of it.
After surviving for so long against the elements, their failed logic finally caused it to topple for good. Each of them are now facing charges and a fine of at least $435.
Countless tourists and locals have been flooding social media mourning the loss of one of nature's most beautiful sights, many of them sharing photos of their own trip to see the quirky rock.
Take a look below to hear more from Kalas about witnessing the atrocity.
And don't forget to SHARE with your loved ones to help stop troublemakers from doing more damage in the future.
