This Soup Kitchen Makes An Unbelievable Promise For Christmas…

While many veterans in the U.S. are struggling with homelessness (the 2014 Point-In-Time estimates that there are currently over 49,000), as well as PTSD, substance abuse, and poverty, there are good people out there willing to lend a hand help out those who fought bravely for our country.

Just recently, an Alabama fraternity began an incredible project to build tiny, sustainable homes for the homeless vets in their community, and now, an organic soup kitchen in Santa Barbara, CA has stepped up to the plate (pun intended). The organization just signed a five-year lease where they will operate out of the local Veteran's Memorial Building and serve up 200 nutritious meals to veterans and their families, KEYT reports.

All of the ingredients in the weekly meals are 80% organic, and the local vets are incredibly grateful for their efforts.

The majority of the funding for the soup kitchen comes from the public, and they usually serve over 30,000 meals. This year, however, they hope to serve 50,000, including home deliveries for seniors and special holiday treats.

"They've gone overseas and served for us," soup kitchen worker Anthony Carrocio said to KEYT. "They've done amazing things for us. We as a community need to stand up more for them."
