Recent visitors at the Staten Island Zoo were in for a surprise when they caught a glimpse of their latest resident: a one-of-a-kind lamb named Earl.
Born on April 25, the four-legged animal has garnered lots of attention for his resemblance to a panda. Earl, now dubbed the “panda lamb,” has similar eye markings to that of the south central Chinese bear.
Naturally, the Staten Island Zoo announced the lambkin’s birth via Facebook along with the caption, “Meet 'Earl' our third and final panda… Err… Lamb of the season.”
The little lamb, whose parents are shown in the video below, has several hobbies, including “taking in rays, chewing stuff, posing for photos,” and, of course, he enjoys his naps.
The zoo also confirmed that Earl was simply a product of nature and not any special breeding.
"His father, Alex, actually has a very light coat, all white, and his face is all white with a few dark markings. His mother, on the other hand, is all brown,” Marc Valitutto, the general curator and a veterinarian at the zoo, told Today. “We didn't realize he was gonna come out in this pattern, but … tada! Gorgeous!"
