Georgia Couple Arrested After Getting Drunk, Falling Asleep And Losing Their Kids At Beach

A Georgia couple was arrested during a vacation to Daytona Beach, Florida, after getting drunk and falling asleep on the beach, leaving their young children unsupervised. The couple — Alyssia Langley and Timothy Stephens, both 27 — were reported to 911 by an anonymous caller. Volusia County Sheriff's Deputies made multiple attempts to wake the couple up. After eight attempts to wake them up, reported Fox 35, the couple woke up but didn't know where their kids were.

WSBTV.com reported that there were multiple empty beer cans around the couple, along with some toys. Because of the children's toys, the deputies asked about their kids, WSBTV.com reported.

The couple seemed "confused," according to deputies, as per ABC15. When asked about the kids — who are 5 and 7 years old — Stephens reportedly said they were "at the beach."

Stephens also gestured vaguely at the water, WSBTV.com reported, but the kids were not actually in the ocean.

"You don't know where they are?" a deputy asked the couple, reported Fox35. Luckily, the kids were found safe. However, they were not on the beach and they were unsupervised.

Deputies found the kids swimming in the pool at their hotel. Langley and Stephens were arrested and charged with child neglect.

Stephens also tried to escape from police. Bodycam footage shows him running from the deputies. He then fell in the sand, knocking himself out, reported ABC15.

Stephens is Langley's fiancé. He is not the kids' biological father, but Langley said Stephens helps her take care of them, as per WSBTV.com. The outlet also reported that the kids call Stephens “dad” and “other daddy.”

Stephens and Langley also reportedly argued with each other after being handcuffed. “Now we’re both going to jail. Who the [expletive] is gonna bond us out?” Langley said to Stephens, reported WSBTV.com.

Thomasa Bond, a person who was staying nearby, spoke to Fox35 after hearing about what had happened.

"If you don't want to be responsible for your children, and that's what you want to do, then find someone to watch them and come on vacation without them," Bond said.

Both Langley and Stephens were booked into jail, though Stephens was reportedly hospitalized first.
