Paul Harvey is often noted as one of the most respected conservative American radio broadcasters in the past 50 years. Often pushing for "the little guy," Harvey was known as a champion for the strength of the individual and he spoke out against big government and corrupt politicians all throughout his legendary career. When he died in 2009 the world truly felt his loss and the over 24 million people he reached in his broadcasts truly knew that things would never be the same without him.
So during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLVII, a lot of people were pretty surprised to suddenly be hearing the soothing timbre of Harvey's legendary voice. And as millions of viewers suddenly realized this was actually a Super Bowl commercial, they were surprised at the serious yet respectful tone of the whole commercial as a whole.
It may have been a commercial for Dodge trucks, but just about everyone agreed at how well it was done. Even though the trucks were showed throughout the nearly two minute long commercial, it was more about the American farmer and Harvey's beautifully poetic speech.
The speech was given back in 1978 as an extension of the story of creation within the Bible's book of Genesis. Harvey's speech explains everything that God did on the eighth day, which was to make a farmer first in order to keep the world together.
We're so happy that Dodge made such a "controversial" commercial and we're proud that they chose to give the American farmer the respect that they all deserve. Please watch this incredible video and thank a farmer.
And please SHARE this amazing piece of poetry if you're thankful that God made farmers!
