At the age of 18, Paula Abdul started her performing career as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers. It was only up, up, and away from there after the Jacksons (yes, the Jacksons) signed her on to choreograph the music video for their single, "Torture." Can you imagine being 18 years old and telling the Jacksons how to dance? What a way to start a career!
And just look at her now: she looks exactly the same today as she did when she first started out, not that it should even matter. She has, after all, had a very successful and expansive career, and continues to appear on many televised talent competitions.
She broke onto the scene right at the same time that music videos were taking the world by storm. That was perfect for her, as her dance moves were just what people wanted to watch while listening to her pop tunes.
In this 1989 performance for the MTV Movie Awards, she sings a medley of three of her best songs: "Straight Up," "Cold Hearted," and "Forever Your Girl." She starts the whole thing off with an impressive tap dance on some tall scaffolding. But, when it's time to get down? That's when the real performance starts.
Isn't it incredible to see such a star perform like this and make it look so easy? She's done this throughout her whole career.
And just watch who comes out on stage at 5:07….
