Cashier Hands Man $1 In Change, Then He Sees A Note Written On It From His Dead Wife

Over 50 years ago, Peter Bilello traveled to Italy to visit his mother. It was there he met, fell in love with, and wed a woman named Grace. In 1964, the couple moved to Connecticut. They had two children and four grandchildren.

In 2001, Grace was diagnosed with cancer. Grace underwent tedious rounds of chemotherapy and radiation for years.

In the midst of it all, Peter came up with a lighthearted idea for him and Grace. They each signed their names on a one-dollar bill. "I told my wife, 'I'm going to sign one on the front: Peter B. I want you to sign one, too, for Grace B.,'" he told ABC News. "I put those 2 dollars in my wallet."

Peter kept those bills safely in his wallet for a whole year, but six years ago, he accidentally used both dollars while out shopping. He was devastated.

Their love kept going strong, all the way up until 2014 when Grace passed away. Peter couldn't help but regret losing her signed dollar.

But in 2015, something incredible happened. Peter gave his granddaughter a $10 bill to pick up food at the store. When she came back, she handed him change in the form of three single dollars.

There was something about the change she put in Peter's hand that sent shockwaves through his body…

Peter wanted to do something fun with Grace, so they each signed their names on a one-dollar bill.

Peter kept those two dollars safely tucked away in his wallet for a whole year, until one day, he accidentally spent them.

It was a small mistake, but one that stuck with him until after Grace passed away in 2014.

The heartbroken widower longed for those bills, but it'd be a miracle to ever see them again.

Five years later, Peter handed his granddaughter a $10 for food. When she handed him the change, he was shocked.

There was Grace's signature! It was her dollar bill she had signed years before.

"It's a miracle to get it back after five years," Peter said. "Who knows how many million people got that dollar in their hands."
