These Plastic Toys Were Trash Until She Took Some Spray Paint And… GENIUS!

Many of us have a junk drawer/shoebox/Tupperware container that we fill with random items we don’t need but can’t seem to give away.

Digging through one can be like uncovering a treasure trove filled with someone’s emotional life. Inside you can find all kinds of things like old birthday cards, diaries, and maybe even the biggest rubber band ball you’ve ever seen in your life.

An item that many of us might have crammed into this drawer is an old toy or two from our childhood. Not our vintage tea set or Nerf Turbo Whistler football  — those are valuable! Not even our cherished teddy bear.

I'm talking cheaper toys, emotional trinkets, like that Mr. Potato Head mustache you stole from your childhood crush (it’s a keepsake!), that palm-sized plastic pony you got after your first visit to the dentist (no cavities!), or your last remaining Army Man (his name is Steve!).

These things still hold value to you but, let’s face it, they’re just taking up space — until now!

Two YouTube DIY divas that go by the name The Sorry Girls have come up with a brilliant way to flip your old plastic toys into something new and cool that can be used and enjoyed every day.

What is it? You’re just going to have to see if for yourself — but believe me it’s so easy and cute, I’m going to try to make one myself this weekend!

First, shuffle through your junk drawer and fish out a few plastic animal toys.

You’re going to need a few materials, like eye screws.

You’ll also need some key rings. (Side note: these also make really nifty makeshift zipper pulls, just hook one into a zipper and zipping becomes a zip!)

Next grab some plastic primer. If you don’t have it handy, it can be bought at a local hardware store.

As well as a can of spray paint, which is an essential ingredient for this project.
