I am what some might kindly refer to as a "pack rat," although the quirky moniker glosses over the sheer volume of my various collections.
I'm not saying you'll see me on an episode of Hoarders anytime soon, but I do have piles of mementos stacked high in my mom's garage — letters from friends, small tokens from trips, and even old textbooks from classes I didn't even like all that much. I just can't seem to let them go! It's fun to think about future generations stumbling upon my stash and piecing together what I was like back in the day.
That's exactly what Joan and Ed Quirk look for as they skim through their mountains of photos and keepsakes from their ancestors. Digging their way through the items for more details about their families is one of the couple's favorite ways to pass the time.
However, when they recently checked the mailbox, they were surprised to see that nostalgia was waiting for them.
What looks like an ordinary postcard turned out to actually be a time traveling gesture from Ed's aunt Frances a whopping 53 years ago. While enjoying a vacation at Cape Cod, MA in 1963, his aunt attempted to send the charming image to her nephew with a sweet message about her trip and inquiring about his recent high school graduation. Unfortunately, it never arrived at Ed's door.
That is, not until a local postal worker discovered it among the rest of his parcels and tracked down Ed's current address.
