Robert Allen Jr. always knew he was adopted. His adoptive mother was wonderful and even encouraged him to find his birth mother, but those documents were sealed.
The youngest of six brothers and sisters, in 1975, at just 5 months old, Robert’s mother gave him up because she couldn’t afford to take care of him. His siblings always knew he existed and always wondered about what happened to their little brother.
It’s difficult to let go of a child and never wonder where he ended up; Hope Holland searched for her son for 15 years until she found him.
Until March of this year, hundreds of thousands of adoption records were sealed in Ohio, where his adoption took place.
Robert had always wanted to have siblings so when his records were unsealed and he was able to see his original birth certificate he set out to find his family through social media.
“I put it on Facebook that I was looking for my mother and father,” said Robert. “That was about 1:00 p.m. By 9:00 p.m. I was talking to my sister.”
Hours later, Robert was speaking to his big sister Stacy. Though their biological mother had passed away eight years ago, Stacy and her siblings were dying to meet Robert.
“We always knew that we had a brother out there,” his brother A.J., said. “We thank the Lord, we thank the Lord that he kept him, that he’s healthy and that he’s back with us.”
The most bizarre part of the story is that Robert was so nearby. He runs a local store and had run into his family members, even his mother, in the past.
“I grew up with a good family and they took care of me and I grew up to be a good person, but still there was always a void and now that void has been filled,” said Robert.
See the beautiful moment this family reunites after 40 years.
