Sea Otter Shocks Visitors By Giving Birth At The Aquarium

You just never know what you are going to see during a visit to the zoo or aquarium. Sure, you can peruse the maps to see which animals may show their faces during your visit, but what some of these animals will be doing is quite unpredictable.

Many were surprised to see a cheetah and a puppy playing together in the snow after a record-breaking snowfall at the Metro Richmond Zoo in Virginia. While at the San Diego Zoo, visitors caught animals playing around with pumpkins.

Visitors saw something very special when a sea otter give birth at California's Monterey Bay Aquarium during an El Niño storm. Aquarium visitors could be seen breathing deeply along with the mother sea otter when she was in labor, almost as a show of support. After a few hours, the pregnant sea otter birthed a baby sea otter, which is referred to as a pup.

This was the second birth in recent months at the Monterey Bay Aquarium sanctuary. Researchers say this is a good indication of the health of area’s ecosystem.

While it’s a good sign, it’s also cuteness overload. Watch the whole story, which includes footage of the mom fluffing her pup’s fur  so cute!
