When Meredith and Keith Charles Diaz got married in 2014, it was a dream come true. However, soon after, Meredith began to notice her husband's bizarre behavior on the internet. The wife became suspicious after discovering conversations between her husband and another woman online. She began to do some digging and discovered documents that revealed her husband had a second wife. Not a mistress, but a legal second wife. When she reported the information to the police, official documents showed that there was no evidence of any divorce.
Keith had been maintaining both marriages at once. The marriage to the other wife began in 2011. Keith has since been arrested and placed in the Davidson County Detention Center. Meredith believes this problem could have easily been avoided if there was a national system that kept track of marriages and divorces. When she and Keith went to get their marriage license, the man used the same name and information as he did with the previous marriage, yet the government didn't flag the new one. Meredith is sharing her story to urge state leaders to pass new legislation that would track a person's marital status through their driver's license or social security number.
