We're all familiar with the works of playwright William Shakespeare. But have you ever wondered whether Shakespeare was really the one behind his art?
It seems like an alarming discovery, but some Shakespeare buffs and historians are wondering whether the incredibly popular playwright really penned the works he's known for. Reason being, the biography of William Shakespeare doesn't seem to match up with the experiences that are written about in the plays.
Shakespeare reportedly didn't travel much, and also didn't attend college. Some theorize that it was Shakespeare who wrote the plays, but they were based around the life of a man named Sir Thomas North. This is probable due to North's résumé — in his time, he served as an English translator, lawyer, and military officer.
Those who've looked into it can argue that plenty of Shakespeare's words match up with those written by North. Many of North's experiences also seem to relate to the works created by Shakespeare. It's possible that Shakespeare wrote about a life he wished he had and modeled a lot on someone else's experience.
Despite evidence, it's something that plenty of Shakespeare fanatics don't want to believe.
In fact, it's possible that nobody will be on board with the theory that Shakespeare wasn't as credible as he's often presented. It's possible that he collaborated with someone else — or just fantasized about someone else's story and put those experiences on the stage.
After seeing it from this point of view, it's worth revisiting a lot of the plays even more. Watch the video to learn what historians have to say about their findings.
