Shannen Doherty Admits She Was Scared When She Found Out Her Breast Cancer Was In Remission

Since Shannen Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, she's been extremely open about her journey. From chemotherapy to remission, the actress has candidly shared her experience with the world via Instagram.

In a new interview with Good Morning America, Shannen got real about her struggle with breast cancer and what's coming next for her. She said she's glad she shared so much of her journey with the world.

"I know sharing helped me, because when I got back, these beautiful stories from other people, what they were going through… Giving me hope and support and love, it really helped," the actress said. "It's truly a family. There's something so beautiful about the journey."

Moreover, the former Charmed star said she's learned a lot from her battle with cancer.

"I'm a better human being," she admitted.

Now the 47-year-old actress is even back to work, with a starring role in Lifetime's No One Would Tell remake.

Now she's finally in remission.

Shannen is ready to dive back into work, and recently, she gave her first live interview since her cancer diagnosis.

"You hear the word remission and it's a rush of different emotions. It's like, 'What's next?' There's a little bit of fear and apprehension. I felt lost for a second. I was like, 'Now what?'" Shannen told Good Morning America.

"My whole life has been about this battle — what felt like my whole life. It seems to take over," she continued.

"But then it sort of starts seeping in, and then you get joyous and you get so excited, but then you got to wait for that five-year mark and that 10-year mark — so remission is a crazy word to me," she went on.

Shannen believes that her cancer battle actually strengthened her relationships with other people: "It was a great moment to be very clear in my life."

She said the experience has also made her a better actress and, more importantly, a better human.

"[Cancer] takes down all your walls, all your barriers, everything that life sort of threw at you… you're guarding yourself, so yeah, that all comes tumbling down," Shannen said.

Now that she's in remission, Shannen is finally getting back on-screen.

She's starring in a new Lifetime movie remake, No One Would Tell, which premiered on September 16.

It's clear that she couldn't be more excited to return to her passion!

"I wanted to make sure that I was back and I was ready for it," Shannen said of her new role.

She sure is back — and better than ever.
