She Wanted To Be Tortured In Public. The Reason Will Shock You To The Core.

Upon first look, you're probably thinking why any human being would subject themselves to such terror — and in public, no less. And that's exactly the point Lush Cosmetics is attempting to drive home with its powerful campaign.

For ten whole hours, 24-year-old Jacqueline Traide volunteered to be force-fed, injected, poked and prodded at Lush's Regent St. store in the UK, all in the name of animal rights. Lush, an international beauty and cosmetics brand, is extremely vocal in its viewpoint against animal cruelty and lab testing, and now they're pushing their message (and boundaries) even harder. Shocked by-passers took pictures and videos, horrified and magnetized by the scene. Jacquie chocked, she gagged, she cried — but when all was said and done, she went home at the end of the day, free to recover and get a good night's sleep in her bed. Meanwhile, according to PETA, more than 100 million animals are killed in the U.S. every year for laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food and cosmetics testing.

These photos, as you'll see, are disturbing — but the worst part is imagining all the innocent animals who experience this nightmare on a daily, regular basis.

Though she suffered no real physical pain (it was all in the name of performance) the message was driven home in the most powerful way.

they stretched her mouth open with two metal hooks attached to a strap around her head. The man in the white coat grabbed hold of her ponytail and tugged it until she tilted backwards.

They forced her eyes open. They dropped liquids into her eyes.

They shaved her head.

They attached wires to her, the metal still gagging her.

They force-fed her...

...and kept feeding her.

Jacquie was humiliated and restrained for ten hours to protest animal testing.
