Folk Duo Simon & Garfunkel Perform ‘The Sound Of Silence’ Live In 1966

Music has changed so much over the past couple of decades, and sometimes popular music today doesn't quite satisfy my soul. And that's when I turn to my favorites from my parents' generation, like Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. But my personal favorite? Folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel!

I'm always very excited to hear my favorite Simon & Garfunkel songs sprinkled into the movies and television shows I watch. When I came across a clip of the duo performing on Canadian television, I couldn't resist sharing!

On February 17, 1966, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel appeared on the television show Let's Sing Out, which brought artists from the U.S. and Canada to university campuses all over Canada. Performances included audience participation, and the show ran for half and hour once a week.

But perhaps by favorite part about this particular clip is the beginning, when Paul Simon explains the meaning of the song's lyrics.

He says, "One of the biggest hangups we have today is the inability of people to communicate, not only on an intellectual level, but on an emotional level as well. So you have people unable to touch other people, unable to love other people. And this is a song about the inability to communicate."

If this is a song you can listen to on repeat, please SHARE!
