Eight Simple Golf Ball Massages To Help You Relax

Life is pretty stressful, and I think we’d all like to be able to take off for a relaxing spa treatment any time we want.

Unfortunately, between family, work, and financial limitations, most of us can’t just sign ourselves up for a two-hour hot stone massage whenever we feel like it.

Fortunately, there are a handful of clever DIY strategies that can help anyone recreate a relaxing spa environment in the comfort of their own home. All it takes is a little creativity!

Find a zen space, get some aromatherapy going by growing a good mood garden, and crank up the soothing music to set the mood.

Then, for the ultimate in-home relaxation, indulge in the easiest possible home massage. All you need is an ordinary golf ball, or two, for helping to soothe sore spots and tight muscles.

Scroll through the gallery below to see the clever ways that a simple golf ball can become the ultimate luxury!

Spa Treatment #1: Spine Support

In this computer-oriented age, lots of us spend our workdays hunched over the computer.

Help to encourage good posture and soothe your sore back at the same time by placing golf balls between your back and the back of the chair.

Focusing either on the top or bottom of the spine, scoot back and sit up straight to hold the golf balls in place, then rock gently side to side, as you work to keep a continuous massage going while you sit at your desk.

Spa Treatment #2: Hamstring Stretch

Workday massages can also be applied to your hamstrings and legs.

If you carry a lot of muscle tension in your buttocks and thighs, using golf balls under your seat might help to relax tightness.

While you're at work or home relaxing on the couch, tuck one or more golf balls under your legs against any sore muscles, then let gravity do the work of kneading out the strained muscles.

Spa Treatment #3: Neck Rub

Hunching over your desk can bother your back, but you may also struggle with neck pain, especially if you crane your neck a lot to watch your hands while you type.

Neck pain may also affect people who spend time reading, sewing, or otherwise bending their head down.

For some short-term relief to the problem, cup a golf ball against your neck in your hand. Roll it around very gently in circles to target sore areas.

Spa Treatment #4: Wrist Support

Carpal tunnel can be a near-constant struggle for folks who use the computer or otherwise make repetitive wrist motions.

Carpal tunnel ranges in severity and can require medical intervention, so check your symptoms with your doctor.

For mild carpal tunnel symptoms, you may find relief from balancing your wrist on a golf ball, and rolling it back and forth as you use your mouse and type.

Spa Treatment #5: Foot Roller

Taking a long walk or spending a day on your feet can often lead to sore arches, especially if you have somewhat flat feet.

A nice foot rub is one of the best ways to relieve the discomfort of weight on your feet. But sometimes, the easiest and most effective way to get the results you want is by giving yourself a gentle foot massage with a golf ball.

Staying seated to avoid slipping, place your golf ball under the ball or arch of your foot, depending on where you feel pain, and roll your foot back and forth across the ball to feel your muscle tension melt away.

Spa Treatment #6: Shoulder And Chest Release

Shoulders bear a lot of weight, especially when you spend any time lifting or carrying heavy objects.

While massaging your back can alleviate some of the discomfort, you may be able to target your shoulders more effectively by approaching the muscle tension from the front.

Using your opposite hand, press a golf ball against the broad flat plane just above your armpit and below your collarbone.

Roll slightly back and forth to relieve strain.

Spa Treatment #7: Calf Massage

A lot of us carry tension and stress in our calf muscles, and this is doubly true of people who walk around a lot.

To release tension in the big muscle behind the lower leg, cup one or two golf balls in the hollow of your hand.

Firmly press them against your calf, rolling up and down the muscle, and paying special attention to any sore areas.

Spa Treatment #8: Back Rub

Last but not least, get the ultimate home spa treatment by roping in a friend or family member!

You may not be able to get a free moment for a spa day, but you can still get pampered and target those hard-to-reach spots with a little help from your friends.

Just have your partner roll one of more golf balls between your shoulder blades and along the small of your back, feeling for knots and lumps.

You'll be surprised by how attuned others sometimes are to pain you may not even notice.
